Mouse pads have two main purposes: providing the right glide when using a mouse and protecting the desktop from scratches. Available models differ in factors such as size, material, and finish.
They can be divided into two basic categories:
- gaming mouse pads — made from soft hydrophobic material with good grip. Their surface is usually larger than that of standard pads (for example, the ENDORFY Cordura Speed XL) to allow wide mouse movements;
- office mouse pads — because of the way they are used, these pads are usually somewhat smaller than gaming pads (for example, Cordura Speed M and Cordura Speed L), so they fit easily even on small desks.
The second distinction is size. Here, mouse pads can be divided into:
- small/medium (M/L) — e.g. 450 × 400 × 3 mm. Ideal for office work or gamers who use high sensitivity (High DPI) and make small wrist movements. They save space on smaller desks;
- large (XL) — e.g. 900 × 400 × 3 mm. These are often chosen by gamers because the large surface allows wide movements. They provide a consistent surface for the entire mouse + keyboard setup.
