Mouse pads - what you need to know?
Mouse pads have two tasks: to provide the right amount of glide when using the mouse and to protect the desk surface from scratches. Models available for purchase differ — among other things in size, material and finish.
We can divide them into two basic categories:
● gaming mouse pads - made from a soft hydrophobic material with good grip. Their surface is usually larger than standard pads (as in the Cordura Speed XL from ENDORFY), allowing wide mouse maneuvers;
● office mouse pads - due to the nature of work, pads of this type are usually somewhat smaller than gaming pads (for example Cordura Speed M and Cordura Speed L), which allows them to easily fit even on small desks.
The second division concerns size itself. Here we distinguish mouse pads:
● small/medium (M/L) - e.g. 450×400×3 mm. Ideal for office work or for players who use high sensitivity (High DPI) and make small wrist movements. They save space on smaller desks;
● large (XL) - such as 900×400×3 mm. They are most often chosen by gamers because of the large surface that allows wide maneuvers. They provide a consistent surface for the entire mouse + keyboard setup.
Mouse pads can also be divided by the type of surface they provide. In this context, the types “speed” and “control” are most often mentioned.

A pad of this size fits not only the mouse but also keyboards, and often accessories (e.g. a mug, a phone). A uniform surface ensures consistent glide for the mouse across the entire workspace and stabilizes the keyboard, preventing it from sliding.
Large mouse pads are made from high-quality fabrics with the following properties:
● non-slip base - made of rubber, effectively prevents the mat from sliding on the desk;
● hydrophobic - the material often has properties that minimize absorption of liquids (e.g. a spilled drink), which makes cleaning easier and extends the pad's lifespan;
● stitched edges - protect the edges from fraying, which is particularly important for large sizes that are more exposed to abrasion.
