Computer mice
The term “computer mouse” is very broad. These highly practical devices differ in several areas: intended use, construction, connectivity, sensors, and number of buttons. These are what determine the mouse's overall functionality and user comfort.
In terms of connectivity, a computer mouse can be wired or wireless. What is the difference?
- wired mice — as the name suggests, they require a connection to the computer via a cable with a USB connector. PS/2 cables were once common, but today mice, keyboards, and motherboards with this port are rare. They are slightly cheaper than their wireless counterparts and do not require battery replacement or charging. ENDORFY wired mice include models such as GEM and LIX Onyx White;
- wireless mice — they connect to a computer (desktop, laptop, or another device) using a dedicated USB transceiver known as a “dongle,” which uses wireless connectivity technology (most commonly the 2.4 GHz band), or via Bluetooth (less precise control than with a dedicated dongle — lower polling rate, higher latency). There are also wireless mice that support three or two connection methods — dongle, Bluetooth, and wired. Wireless designs offer greater mobility (no cable) and the ability to operate over a longer distance. ENDORFY wireless mice include models such as GEM Plus Wireless and LIX Wireless Onyx White.
By intended use, they can be divided into:
- gaming mice — their key features include a high polling rate (1000 Hz), an advanced optical/laser sensor (high CPI/DPI, or Counts Per Inch/Dots Per Inch), programmable buttons, ergonomics for a specific grip style, RGB/ARGB lighting, and optionally adjustable weight;
- office mice — standard mice with a simple design that provide basic ergonomics and functionality;
- mobile mice — these computer mice feature compact dimensions, low weight, and power from AA/AAA batteries or a built-in rechargeable battery;
- mice for graphic designers and other designers — a professional computer mouse of this type provides exceptional precision and the ability to work on different surfaces (e.g. glass).
A computer mouse can have from 3 to as many as 12 buttons (and even more on selected MMO models). Their number determines functionality:
- standard 3 buttons — left, right, and scroll wheel. They are sufficient for basic office work and web browsing;
- mice with 4–5 buttons use additional side buttons (e.g. with “back” and “forward” as default functions for websites, galleries, and similar programs). This is standard on universal mice and some gaming models;
- gaming mice — may have an additional thumb button panel (6, 9, or 12). These are intended for assigning complex macros and abilities in games.
Computer mice use different types of sensors to detect movement. Mechanical ball mice were once used — today technology has moved on, and there are two main types:
- optical sensors — they use an LED, usually red, to track movement. They can work on practically most surfaces, but they are not as precise as their laser counterparts.
- laser sensors — these sensors are used in ENDORFY mice. Their operating principle is similar to optical counterparts, but their advantage is higher acceleration, which is beneficial in fast-paced games (e.g. FPS, MOBA), usually higher maximum DPI (although this depends on price range), and the frequently available ability to configure LOD (Lift-Off Distance).
Wired computer mouse
An ENDORFY wired computer mouse such as LIV or LIX Onyx White has an ergonomic, lightweight design, so using it for many hours does not tire the hand. They feature excellent response time, provided by Kailh GM 4.0 microswitches and PixArt PAW3311 and PixArt PMW3325 sensors. Thanks to their lightweight construction and advanced PTFE feet, each mouse glides easily across the mouse pad.
The finishing touch is dedicated software that lets you, among other things, set preferred sensitivity profiles, change ARGB lighting, and create macros. Silent computer mouse
Don't want to wake the whole house during a late-night session? A silent mouse — for example, one from ENDORFY — is the ideal solution. Features such as quieter microswitches and a refined scroll-wheel mechanism let you play quietly. This makes it easier to concentrate, which is useful not only for gaming but also for work or study. And if you stream, your viewers will not hear clicking sounds.
How much does a computer mouse cost?
A computer mouse is available across a very wide price range. Whether it is a small computer mouse you want to take on a trip or your favorite nine-button gaming mouse, you will find models in our range with a good balance of price and capabilities.
Because it is worth making sure your computer mouse works without problems, we also offer moisture-resistant mouse pads. If you are building your setup, also take a look at our keyboards and desks, where you can comfortably arrange all your equipment.
